Portrait Abstraction
For the portrait abstraction, I used Photoshop to distort the image. I used the select tool to select a part of the photo and copied it by pressing Ctrl-c and then Ctrl-v to replicate it and then Ctrl-t to transform it and move it around the original image. I did this with multiple parts of the photo making it look more distorted.

Techniques
To take these photos, I made sure I was close up to the subject and positioned them so that the sunlight complimented their features. I took the photos from different angles so that the background didn't distract from the actual subject. I set the camera to a mid f-stop which was 5 because of the sunlight and set the camera to manual focus.
