About:
Andrew McNeil is a photographer who documents the harsh quality of life on the streets of Cardiff. He had originally started to travel the globe, going to third-world countries to show how hard life was for them. But, he realised that Cardiff's homeless people, who slept on the streets or in doorways, had life just as bad as those in third-world countries and began photographing them.
His photos show his subjects in a very bleak and harsh way that almost makes the viewer want to look away. Since they're black and white, it could show how their lives are depressing and lonely as the colour has been drained from their faces. Personally, I really like these photo's as it shows the truth of life on the streets which hardly anybody seems to notice as they're walking by.
Andrew McNeil was really intent on finding the truth of living on the streets as he had also joined some of his subjects and spent nights on the streets with them to experience what they go through and as he says, "I wanted to show them that they could trust me."

My Photos
This shoot was taken around Greenwich showing the darker parts of the area that I thought looked lonely and depressing as well as possibly bad living conditions. This is because the corners of the streets that I took, are places that homeless people might actually stay and things that people tend to associate with homeless people are second hand clothing, as they might not be able to afford any other clothing. I also tried to make to the photos seem isolated as loneliness is also associated with homelessness.

These are photos inspired by Andrew McNeil that I edited on Photoshop. I did this by making them black & white and making the features stand out more by adjusting the exposure and brightness for example as well as the saturation to make the images look harsh and emotional similar to Andrew McNeil. I made sure the subjects, and myself, had either a straight expression or a gloomy expression on their face as I was trying to express that being homeless was a bleak and gloomy experience. I think these photos were successful as they do show the style of Andrew McNeil as they are quite isolated and emotional even though they were staged unlike his photos.
