Humans of New York
Humans of New York was made by Brandon Stanton in November 2010. He had planned to get 10,000 portraits of New Yorkers and plot them on a map of the city. The project soon evolved, and when Stanton started having conversations with his subjects and including small quotes and stories alongside his photographs. With this new format, the blog began to grow rapidly and a matter of months, Humans of New York became very popular. As of March 2016, Humans of New York has more than seventeen million likes on its Facebook page. Brandon also has over three hundred thousand followers on Twitter.
What was he trying to capture?
Brandon Stanton was trying to capture the everyday people of New York. He tried to show the different perspectives of people, their emotions, and problems they face. His images reveal how the person is feeling at the time and is emphasized with the captions he includes. Brandon also captures the characteristics of the people which very normal looking people, to very different looking people.
What do I like about his work?
I like how simple his photos are as they focus on the person who is usually at the center of the photo. I also like how Brandon gets to know the person who he's taking a photo of and bases his captions on this. It makes his photos more emotional
