About:
Christoffer Relander was born in Finland December 1986 and grew up on the countryside of Ekenäs. He became interested in art started at an young age, but it was not until he served the Finnish Marines between 2008-2009 that he really started to enjoy photography. Christoffer is now a full time photographer and has done work for Adobe, Nikon, Oxford University Press and Finnish Forest Industry.
As an experimental fine art photographer, Christoffer Relander applies a technique inspired by multiple exposure to create ‘We Are Nature’ which is a series of surreal images based on the relationship between man and nature. Christoffer uses his camera as a tool that can help him create surreal images which he choses over paints, pencils and paper.
Personally, I enjoy his fine art photography as I usually use pens and pencils to create effects. His work has inspired me to experiment on the relationship between man and materiaslism for example buildings and cars.

Some of Chistoffer's Work
My Critique:
This work combines nature and mankind as Christoffer has used multiple exposure to create this effect in the photo. The person's features have been removed and replaced by branches and leaves however, their outline can still be seen and it's easy to see where the person's features would be. The purpose behind this photo is to express the relationship between man and nature which he has made clear to see. The colour in this photo is vibrant with natural tones making the leaves the main focus of the image. There are no geometric shapes in this as the leaves create repetition of many different complicated patterns which adds to the natural side of it. To improve this however, I would make the features more prominent in the photo to add to the human aspect of the photo as I feel that the nature element outweighs it. I also feel as though adding the human features would make this photo look more surreal and support the context of the photo more as it would make the person look as though they are fading into the nature. |
